President Truman was the 33rd president of the United States. He became president on April 12, 1945 after President Roosevelt died of poor health. Truman approved the use of atomic bombs against Japan with the intention of them surrendering. After the war he played a role in founding the United Nations, creating the Truman Doctrine and passing the Marshall Plan and watched over the Berlin Airlift in 1948.
